Soil Protection Review 2006-2009
Tuesday, 17 August 2010
The Soil Protection Review (SPR) was introduced to tackle degradation threats to soil. When soil is lost or damaged through compaction, erosion or loss of organic matter it becomes less productive. It can also have a significant impact on water quality and aquatic ecosystems, contribute to localised flooding from increased runoff, and cause problems such as soil on roads.

Anyone in receipt of support under the Single Payment Scheme (SPS) must meet the Good Agricultural and Environmental Condition (GAEC) standards for soil management and protection, as well as all the other relevant standards that are set out in The Guide to Cross Compliance in England.
