David Chennells will review euthanasia and the safe use and maintenance of the captive bolt, using material from the Humane Slaughter Association. David will also review what’s new in The Casualty Pig booklet, and discuss what you can send to the abattoir, what you should euthanise, and how you transport it. A certificate of attendance will be given at the end of the workshop

Our next meeting is the rearranged meeting from January, Sam Gilliot, who is the Unit Manager for Waddingham Grange from Ermine Farms. Sam’s unit is a traditional indoor 730 sow farrow to finish, straw based unit. Their unit consistently produces in excess of 28 pigs weaned / sow / year and they have been trialling some new production techniques like the Gestal as lib lactation feeder and Pig Safe freedom farrowing. Please come armed with questions as you ‘walk’ with Sam around his unit and hear about the challenges and successes he has experienced over the last few years.
